Miami-Dade County welcomes and invites you to become stewards of the environment.

We live in one of America’s most unique and vulnerable communities. The County’s focus is to achieve aggressive climate change, water conservation, energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals to sustain ourselves, our community and our natural resources.
This effort includes the County’s implementation of GreenPrint – Our Design for a Sustainable Future, which is the framework to synchronize government and community goals and initiatives.

  • Kids can illustrate how every drop counts

    D-ropMiami-Dade County elementary school students – do you have a creative way to show the importance of water and energy conservation? Then participate in the popular Every Drop Counts Kids Poster Contest! Every student who creates and submits original artwork receives a D-rop Counts T-shirt. The deadline for entries is March 2nd.

  • Input welcome on regional climate action plan

    Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change CompactThe Southeast Florida Regional Climate Compact recently hosted the 3rd Annual Climate Leadership Summit in Key Largo, where the Draft Regional Climate Action Plan was released. The plan provides a framework for regional-scale action to reduce emissions and prepare southeast Florida for the impacts of global climate change. Public comments and input on the draft plan are welcome from now until Feb. 10, and they will be used to help create the region’s first-ever climate action plan.

  • County’s Green efforts earn Chamber award

    Thanks to its vast efforts communicating the benefits of Green practices, Miami-Dade County’s Office of Sustainability (OOS) received the Green Education and Outreach Award at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce's 2011 Sustainable South Florida Awards on Nov. 17. With the support of other departments, OOS launched a comprehensive energy education campaign aimed toward the community and County employees alike. They include Home Energy Savings Workshops, free Light Bulb and Showerhead Exchanges, the Residential Appliance Rebate Program and much more!

  • Students: Show how to clean up and green up

    Miami-Dade County students are invited to participate in the "Clean Up and Green Up" poster contest. Use that slogan in your artwork and you'll have a chance to win cool prizes! Entries can be submitted between Jan. 27 - Feb. 24.

  • GreenPrint: A community plan for our future

    GreenPrintMiami-Dade County’s sustainability plan, GreenPrint: Our Design for a Sustainable Future, is a community plan that calls upon government, groups and individuals to achieve a greener future and greater quality of life for Miami-Dade County. Dozens of initiatives are included, addressing our economy, climate change, protecting natural resources and much more. Read about GreenPrint’s different sustainability goal areas, and provide feedback on the plan’s goals.

  • Love your (safe, clean) tap water

    I Love Tap WaterThe 2010 Water Quality Report, produced by the Water & Sewer Department, presents details about how Miami-Dade’s drinking water is treated, and how it’s measured to determine its safety.
